Who was the real Kay Summersby of Pressure?

In the D-Day drama Pressure, Kerry Condon stars as Kay Summersby, US General Dwight D Eisenhower’s aide and driver. In the film she acts both as confidant to the general and a mediator between battling factions on his staff. But is the figure we see on screen anything like the real woman, asks Jonathan Wright?
